Civil Estimator

Civil Estimator

Wolff Excavating in Salt Lake City, UT is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Civil Estimator to lead our excavating team. As the Estimating Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the estimation process, analyzing plans and specifications, and preparing accurate project bids. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proven track record in construction estimating.

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: $32-36 per hour

Expected Hours: 35-45 per week

Benefits: 401(k), medical, dental, vision, life, accident, holiday and vacation pay

Schedule: day shift with some flexibilityote work

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solicit bid opportunities through bidding platforms and networking activities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Analyze plans, specifications, drawings and other engineering documents and conduct site visits to determine labor, material, and equipment requirements
  • Negotiate competitive pricing with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Prepare estimates and take-offs and submit written bid proposals
  • In collaboration with the business office, coordinate client contracts and other compliance documents
  • In collaboration with superintendents, manage each project to maximize positive outcomes, including monitoring project costs and schedules to stay within budget
  • Initiate and process change orders as appropriate
  • Engage in transparent and proactive dialogue with clients to ensure satisfaction
  • Prepare and submit payment application to business office for timely billing
  • Track and report on project bid outcomes and trends
  • Review and refine cost estimates to ensure competitiveness and accuracy
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with co-workers, participating in constructive teamwork to identify opportunities and mitigate liabilities

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 3-5 years’ experience in heavy civil construction, with an emphasis on earth moving and utilities infrastructure
  • Proficient in safety standards, reading plans & specifications, bonding requirements, and computer software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent math, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong work-ethic and solid integrity
  • Current driver license with good driving record
